With that in mind, we're excited to introduce Karolina Toporowicz and Aleksander Papadakis, who  started their Ramp Network journey in our Customer Support Team and have since transitioned to Financial Crime Operations and Treasury, respectively.

Please tell us a bit about your initial role in Customer Support and what led you to consider a move to a different team.

Karolina:

The most impactful experience from my Customer Support role was being part of the transaction team. We focused on resolving transaction issues for our customers, such as releasing funds. This role suited me perfectly because I am very detail-oriented and enjoy analysing transactions to uncover interesting patterns and insights.

This experience inspired my decision to move to the Financial Crime team, where I could delve even deeper into transaction analysis. In my new role, I can thoroughly investigate transactions and help users from a more back-office perspective, leveraging my analytical skills to ensure better security and compliance.

Aleksander:

I started my journey as a Junior Customer Support Agent and following my promotion to a Mid-Level Customer Support Agent our Head of Treasury Adam, suggested I help with liquidity tasks. I discussed this opportunity with my team lead and decided to go for it as it was something new and offered a valuable learning experience.

Initially, I had considered joining the Design team in the future. However, after a few meetings and gaining more knowledge about treasury, I found it more interesting. After several months, I spoke with Adam once more about the possibility of joining the treasury team. Before I knew it I was a Junior Treasury Specialist!

How did Ramp Network support you during your transition from customer support to a new function?

Karolina:

I asked the manager of the Financial Crime team Anna, about transitioning to a new role, and they were instrumental in supporting this move. She helped define the role, and a team member created training materials and a guide to assist with my onboarding.

The Head of Fraud Risk Management Sunil, provided excellent training. We had a comprehensive meeting and covered everything related to fraud and suspicious activities. I learned so many new and interesting things, which greatly facilitated my transition.

Aleksander:

Ramp provided strong support during my transition from Customer Support to Treasury. While I was still in Customer Support, I began learning about liquidity through online meetings with a team member who showed me how it works and provided manual instructions.

Once I officially joined the Treasury team, I spent a week in Warsaw for in-person training with the entire team. This was a fantastic opportunity to bond, integrate, and socialise with my new colleagues. Being in the office made it easier to perform tasks and ask questions, as I could see firsthand how others carried out their responsibilities.

What were some of the challenges you faced during this transition between roles? How did you overcome them?

Karolina:

The main challenges included meeting new people and learning new processes. I overcame these challenges by diligently learning and practicing the new processes daily, and by regularly interacting with the team. I maintained self-belief and was fortunate to have a very supportive and collaborative team that was always happy to answer any questions.

Aleksander:

Fortunately, I already had a lot of knowledge from handling liquidity tasks. During the one week of training, I encountered a lot of new information, which sometimes felt overwhelming. However, I focused on learning and managing the new material. I frequently asked the team for help, and they were always happy to answer my questions.

Can you share any experiences or examples where you felt particularly encouraged or supported by your team or manager?

Karolina:

My customer support lead at the time encouraged me to pursue everything I wanted. They were very excited about my hunger for knowledge and my desire to develop my technical skills (I am learning programming and studying computer science as a hobby). They helped me implement these skills in my day-to-day support role. In Financial Crime, my manager Yasir, encourages me to take on new challenges. Recently, I mentioned wanting to provide training for newcomers, which would help cement my knowledge of the processes, share my experiences of being new on the team, and be a good way to bond with new colleagues.

Aleksander:

Adam, Head of Treasury was instrumental in supporting my career aspirations and desire to move to the treasury team. They provided not only extensive training but also identified a suitable role for me on the team. They coordinated the logistics of my transition with my current manager and the people team, ensuring a smooth and supportive process.

How has your performance and job satisfaction been affected by the move? Do you feel more aligned with your career goals now?

Karolina:

Moving to the Financial Crime role at Ramp Network has significantly improved my job satisfaction and performance. As a neurodivergent individual, I find that I thrive in a back-office role that involves detailed tasks rather than customer-facing interactions. This role allows me to focus on details and brings out the best in me. The diversity of tasks in Financial Crime keeps me engaged, and I never feel bored. Looking ahead, my goal is to progress to a mid-level Transactional Monitoring Specialist as the next step in my career.

Aleksander:

When I joined Ramp Network in Customer Support, I had limited work experience. The exposure I got to liquidity tasks showed me that Treasury and Finance was where I wanted to grow my career.  In the short term, my goal is to absorb and master the knowledge specific to my current role. Looking ahead, I aspire to continue growing within the treasury team, aiming for promotions while remaining in the treasury organisation. This opportunity to move between teams has been unexpectedly fulfilling, and I appreciate being part of a company that invests so deeply in professional growth.

Reflecting on your journey from customer support to your current team, what are the key takeaways you would like to share with others about making a successful lateral move?

Karolina:

It's essential never to settle; maintain a hunger for knowledge and a willingness to learn. Self-belief is the key to achieving success.

Aleksander:

Embrace new tasks and information without fear. Open yourself to new experiences and step into the unknown!

In a few words, describe why Ramp Network is a unique company to work for?

Karolina:

You can truly be your authentic self here!

Aleksander:

There are endless growth opportunities!

Thank you, Karolina and Aleksander, for featuring in this blog. We look forward to seeing what you’ll do next at Ramp Network!
